New Delhi: As the deadly war between Russia and Ukraine entered its fourth week, India and Japan Saturday agreed to jointly cooperate on Ukraine, a Japanese official confirmed.

During a press briefing, the press secretary of Japan Hikariko Ono said, “India and Japan are on the same page regarding the Ukraine issue. PM Kishida and Modi PM agreed to cooperate jointly on Ukraine.”

“Any attempt to change the status quo cannot be tolerated anywhere in the world. They (Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Kishida) had an intense discussion on resolving the conflict peacefully,” she said.

Ono’s briefing took place on Day 1 of Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishidaofficial visit to India and his first bilateral visit for the 14th Annual India-Japan Summit with Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

Speaking of their meeting, she said, “The two leaders discussed nuclear disarmament as Kishida of Hiroshima who was hit by a nuclear bomb. They also agreed to promote people-to-people exchanges, tourism and sports”.

The Japanese press secretary also said that Kishida’s visit to India succeeded in solidifying the base and the partnership with Prime Minister Modi.

“This visit has successfully cemented the base and partnership between the two leaders (PM Modi and Japanese PM). Grateful for the warm hospitality of the Indian people and government despite the challenges of COVID-19,” Hikariko said.

She added that Japan and India share fundamental values ​​such as democracy, freedom and the rule of law. The two countries are strategic and global partners.
