And there’s a lot more where it came from
Even more than 30 years after its initial release, nearly every aspect of Street Fighter 2 remains unforgettable and part of fighting game culture.
japanese artist Kuronecosan is a huge fan of the series and recently decided to recreate Street Fighter 2’s iconic VS screen using the much older and wiser redesigns of Ryu, Guile and Chun-Li from Street Fighter 6 – along with others great works capturing the spirit of world warriors.
Although Kuroneco has kept its updated VS. colorless screen, their cross-hatched lineart more than makes up for the amount of depth and detail it gives to fighters who’ve been around the block a few times.
Ryu looks rather worn and rugged while Chun-Li is more mature and refined, but Kuroneco still gave them their old SF2 poses, which admittedly looks a little funny on Ryu now.
When the talented artist chooses to include color, he goes out of his way and makes things pop like Rose with all the different shades of blue and purple detailed in her hair.
You can check out a small gallery of Kuroneco’s recent Street Fighter-themed works below, including the VS. screen portraits, and there’s plenty more awesome fighting game art to be found on their Twitter.
