Fena: pirate princess, the swashbuckling samurai series inspired by the manga Shojo, drops anchor on Saturday, August 14 with a special two-episode premiere on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim.

Adult Swim will broadcast the English-dubbed series in North America and Crunchyroll will broadcast the subtitled series worldwide outside of Japan. You can watch the trailers using the player below.

The series follows the adventures of Fena Houtman as she flees pirates and the English navy and must rely on a crew of Japanese samurai to unlock her family secrets… and an unimaginable treasure!

The half-hour animated series is produced by Kazuto Nakazawa and Production IG serves as the animation studio.

As for the director’s inspiration, Nakazawa cited the shojo manga as a major influence, “It made me want to make an anime with a Shojo manga flavor.”

He also mentioned that the show has adventure and action “… but it’s basically a love story.”

Fena Houtman will be voiced by Brittany Cox: A positive and joyful orphan despite her traumatic past. Known for her pale skin and shiny silver hair.

Yukimaru will be voiced by Robb Moreira: The introverted bodyguard armed with the katana of the Houtman family. He is extremely protective of Fena.

Shitan will be voiced by Nicholas Corda: This handsome elite warrior can kill with his bow and arrows or with his appearance. Although on the surface he seems distant, he greatly appreciates his friends.

Karin will be voiced by Anjali Kunapaneni: Raised by a family of blacksmiths, Karin is passionate about technology like her gun, which she puts to good use in combat.

Enju will be voiced by Brandon Winckler: Kaede’s older twin. They both use a spear and a wakizashi in combat, they are both friendly and mischievous, but Enju feels more reliable than his younger brother.

Kaede will be voiced by Darrel J Delfin: The youngest twin of Enju. They both use a spear and a wakizashi in combat, they are both friendly and mischievous, but Kaede feels more manly than his older brother.

Tsubaki will be voiced by Alan Lee: The oldest and most mature member of the group, he manages everyone’s crazy energy. He’s the cook too, but when he fights he wields a short ninja sword.

Makaba will be voiced by Thomas E Wynn: This mountain of boy prefers to fight melee with brass knuckles. When he’s not fighting he’s kind and gentle.

Salman will be played by Frank Todaro: An older knight who once called himself “Salman the Onslaught” for being so deadly with a spear. He has known Fena since she was a girl as he served the Houtman family for a while.

Otto will be voiced by Doug Stone: Another older knight who served the Houtman family and had an intimidating nickname in his youth – “Otto the Blitz” for his fast-paced swordplay.
