The bowl schedule will resume on Saturday: The college football bowl season is set to resume Saturday afternoon when Georgia State (7-5) meets Ball State (6-6) at the Camellia Bowl. This game, in Montgomery, Alabama, comes a day after the Hawaii Bowl was not played due to illnesses and injuries in the Hawaii schedule. The Rainbow Warriors were to face Memphis.
Georgia State has won six of seven games after a 1-4 start. Ball State will be hoping to finish with a winning record and claim their second straight bowl victory. The Cardinals were 0-8-1 before beating San Jose State in the Arizona Bowl last season.
Japanese skater Hanyu shines: Reigning two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu returned from a long injury absence to land two quadruple jumps to score a world record 111.31 points in his short program at the Japanese championships on Friday. Hanyu, who was sidelined for eight months with an ankle injury, was nearly five points ahead of American Nathan Chen’s score at Skate Canada. Hanyu and Chen are expected to fight for Olympic gold at the Beijing Games in February.
The Japanese and Russian Championships run throughout the weekend, and along with the US nationals in early January, they should give figure skating fans a taste of who to watch at the Winter Games.
