The value of the Japanese NIKKEI fell by 2.94% to 25221.41 points, the Japanese TOPIX fell by 2.76% to 1794.03 points. Chinese Shanghai Composite down 2.17% to 3372.86 points, and HANG SENG down 3.87% to 21057.63 points.
The Nikkei-225 Stock Average is a price-weighted average of 225 top-rated Japanese companies listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The Nikkei Stock Average was first published on May 16, 1949, where the average price was ¥176.21 with a divisor of 225.
The TOPIX, also known as the Tokyo Stock Price Index, is a capitalization-weighted index of all companies listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The index is completed by the sub-indices of the 33 industrial sectors. The index calculation excludes temporary issues and preferred stocks and has a base value of 100 as of January 4, 1968.
The Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index is a capitalization-weighted index. The index tracks the daily price performance of all A- and B-shares listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The index was developed on December 19, 1990 with a base value of 100. The trading volume of the index on Q is reduced by a factor of 1000.
The Hang Seng Index is a capitalization-weighted free-float index of selected companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The constituents of the index are divided into four sub-indices: trade and industry, finance, utilities and real estate. The index was developed with a base level of 100 on July 31, 1964, reports “Armenpress”.
