The third edition is now in beta. The book covers Rails 2.0.

I covered Rails 2.0 and the book. You don’t have to wait for the book to come out of beta. Nothing stops us from getting started with web programming.

Social Media Optimization Practical Technique

The most difficult thing in writing about Japanese stuff is to translate proper nouns.

SMO(ソーシャルメディア最適化)実践テクニック (Social Media Optimization Practical Technique). The book gave me a good overview in the area. Adds a Japanese perspective to the social media optimization. The book is written for non-experts in this field and comes with a number of illustrative cases. The last chanper is an interview with Tomoharu Sumi, a Japanese expert in this area.

The book is worthwhile for those interested in SMO and have a basic understanding of SEO/SEM. (Note: you should be comfortable with reading Japanese.) And this is way cheaper than attending seminors of this sort. If you only learn things when you attend a lecture, please prepare for the cash and/or giving your and your company’s information.

P.S. Feel free to click the link above. That’s not an Amazon affiliate link unlike links on your website.

Update: The title of this post changed. “Practical Technique” is better than “practice technique”.

Programming Amazon Web Services

A new book from O’reilly.

O’reilly - Safari Books Online:

Building on the success of its storefront and fulfillment services, Amazon now allows businesses to “rent” computing power, data storage and bandwidth on its vast network platform. This book demonstrates how developers working with small- to mid-sized companies can take advantage of Amazon Web Services (AWS) such as the Simple Storage Service (S3), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Queue Service (SQS), Flexible Payments Service (FPS), and SimpleDB to build web-scale business applications. With AWS, Amazon offers a new paradigm for IT infrastructure: use what you need, as you need it, and pay as you go. Programming Web Services explains how you can access Amazon’s open APIs to store and run applications, rather than spend precious time and resources building your own.
